Thun Castle

Located on a hilltop with a view over the entire Non Valley, Thun Castle is surrounded by a complex system of fortifications made up of towers, walls, bastions, parapets and trenches dating back to the 16th century.
Between the mid-18th century and the end of the 19th century, the fortress and magnificent residence was home to one of the most powerful and ancient families in Trentino. Until the death of Count Zdenko Franz Thun Hohenstein of the Bohemian Teschen line, on 30 July 1982, Thun Castle was permanently inhabited, a lifelong abode that was carefully looked after. Over the years it has changed its appearance in keeping with changing tastes. been refurbished and redecorated, and has been treasure trove of archive documents with its rich library. On the first floor is the Stuba Magna, which contains a cycle of frescoes comprising 24 scenes depicting the Dutch War of Independence. Also worth noting is the wooden ceiling coffers, enriched with floral decorations.
