Together with the lake, one of the characteristic landscape features of Garda Trentino is Arco Castle, which overlooks the Sarca river plain where the river widens.
There are three roads leading up to the Castle, home to the Counts of Arco during the Medieval period, which wind through the olive woods that wrap around the estate and bring you to the Castle after just a few minutes. Beyond the last ring of walls is the Prato della Lizza, a lush expanse overlooking Garda Trentino with the three enormous walls of the Torre Grande, Sasso Prison and the Sala degli Affreschi, with its beautiful frescoes of chess games and battles looming over it; at the top, the last refuge from attack, is Renghera Tower, which used to call farmers to prayer with its ‘renga’ bell tower.
