S.A.S.S. Sas underground archaeological space

In the Sas underground archaeological space, in Piazza Cesare Battisti, the heart of Trento and the symbolic place of Tridentum, more than 1,700 square meters of Roman city can be visited, which came to light thanks to the archaeological excavations carried out during the restoration and expansion of the Teatro Sociale . You can still see a long stretch of the eastern wall, an extensive segment of paved road, sectors of houses with remains of mosaics, courtyards and craft shops.
The ancient Roman Tridentum, the splendidum municipium as it was defined by the emperor Claudius in 46 AD, has allowed to reconstruct in the very heart of the city an almost uninterrupted historical sequence of about 2000 years, that is from the foundation to today: here therefore overlap in the same the Roman age structures, the late ancient and early medieval period, the medieval quarter, the Renaissance palace, the nineteenth-century theater and the contemporary one.
